It was in some ways Sanjay Subrahmanyan's evening. At the opening day of the fest of Brahma Gana Sabha at Sivagami Petachi Auditorium, Alwarpet.
Sabha promoter Nalli Kuppuswami was effusive in crediting this top ranking vocalist with the idea of honouring a percussionist ( accompanist) at the awards event every year.
And that is how a new award, Vaadhya Paadhmam has come to be and it was decorated on mridangam and konakkol artiste Trichy Thayumanavan this evening.
Sanjay looked a tad embarrassed for the public revelation but the applause of appreciation was timely.
Later, as if he was drawing his rasikas into his music Sanjay raced away with pithy, humorous anecdotes to lace his award acceptance speech.
