Kartik Fine Arts & Arangham Trust present Purush:
The Global Dancing Male at the sabha’s annual conference/performance conclave
at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
It runs from December 18 to 22, 2013 in Chennai.
The pre-conference shows will be held at Alliance
Francaise on Dec 18 and 19, 2013. The event is created and curated by Dr.
Anita Ratnam (Artistic Director of Arangham Trust) and co-curated by Hari
Krishnan (Professor of Dance, Wesleyan University, USA).
At the event, Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj will
be decorated with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" instituted by
Kartik Fine Arts.
While lectures and lec-dems are held in the mornings,
the recitals are in the evenings. Among dancers on stage are Astad Deboo, Hari
Krishnan, Birju Maharaj, A. Lakshman and Navtej Johar.
There is also a Therukoothu show at Nageswara Rao
Park, Luz on Dec.21, 8pm - 10pm: ‘Draupadi Vastrapaharanam’ in Therukoothu by
Purisai Doraiswamy Kannappa Thambiran Paramparai Therukoothu Manram
Morning sessions are free to all, evening shows are
ticketed. The Therukoothu performance is free.
